The Evil Empire is Falling!!!

The Eskimos, who dealt Jason Maas to the Hamilton Tiger Cats, entered the 2006 season as defending Grey Cup Champions. But they you would hardly know that by looking at their play thus far. The team has staggered out of the blocks this season and has faltered and fumbled their way to a 3-7 start, three games behind the third place Riders. The Eskimos are in tough to make the playoffs this year, to say the least.

Perhaps the only thing that can save Danny Maciocia from being let go is divine intervention. He mentioned after the 44-23 Labour Day loss to the Stampeders that what he needs right now is a church. The Calgary herald described him best:
“Maciocia's as large as a garden gnome. All that's required to finish the picture is a pointed hat. Decked out in green, he looks like an escapee from Golden Acres. And he had the same sort of small, thin, painted-on smile you see on gnomes in the wake of a 44-23 hiding his Eskimos absorbed Monday afternoon.”

Frankly, I love it! The Eskimos are squirming at the prospect of missing their firs playoff game since 1972! To put it in perspective, many of the Eskimo faithful…..er…um fickle, were not yet born!

Perhaps there is a curse on the Evil Empire, and the football Gods have finally chosen to allow the rest of the CFL to have some fun. We all remember the trade fiasco created by Edmonton GM, and former Rider, Hugh Campbell. They were able to land a solid running back (Troy Davis) and had promised in return (Jason Maas). Many had questioned Campbell’s decision due to Maas’ superior play over team mate Ricky Ray. But now that Maas is in Hamilton, well let’s say that Hugh may have got rid of Maas at the right time. Maas, former Eskimo, is probably putting forth the worst effort of all the CFL quarterbacks this year in Hamilton. And now the fans in Hamilton are calling for a change at the helm. The sting is probably softened by the fact that his former team isn’t fairing much better, and both teams may be the only two watching the playoffs from the comfort of their living rooms. Gee…..I feel so sad for them…..NOT!
