Eric Tillman had better be doing some serious work behind closed doors. There has been no news out of the Rider front office since his arrival. Aside from rumour and innuendo nothing has been issued as far as any signings, trades or major moves within the organization.
Tillman arrived three weeks ago with a promise that the team will reflect what the province’s people want. Well, there are many in Riderville who feel that the team needs a third quality receiver. Some may argue that upon Richardson’s return, which could be as early as the game against BC on the 24th, the team will have three go-to receivers in Dominguez, Armstead and himself (Richardson). There are some rumblings on Riderfans.com that Tillman has brought in veteran import receiver Yo Murphy, former Ottawa Renegade to supply some spark to the passing game. That rumour, along with the rumour that Barrett has been fired, has yet to come to fruition.
Perhaps Tillman is making deals behind closed doors and working on the focus of the press to be on the field rather than on the front office. Or he’s working with signing some future free agents within the team. Who really knows?? Time will tell.
I really don’t think that the team needs any help on offense, this year. Tillman will be up to his neck in work when the free agent period comes next February, however. When Jamel Richardson returns the passing game will be fortified, which will open the running attack. The defense has been playing well, and the O-Line has stood up to it’s reputation of years past. This team, like years past, will be making a strong run at the end of the season going into the play offs, and is still on the prowl for the ever-elusive home play off game. If the Riders are to get the game they will need to step up and be more consistent, as stated by Rider Fanatic on Riderfans.com.
Will the Riders get the home playoff game??? In a word….no. The BC Lions and Calgary Stampeders are playing too well to allow that to happen. This year the Riders will have to win in Calgary to advance to face BC in the West final. Will this be impossible??? In a word…..NO! The Riders typically play BC well and are due for a win in Calgary. But for now their focus is on beating BC at home, and I think they will. BC was beaten up on the field in a win at home against Montreal.
Final score against BC this week:
Riders: 34
Lions: 22
